John has been a professional actor for over 20 years and Playwright for 10 and has studied with acclaimed teachers such as William Hickey, Uta Hagen, Herbert Berghof, Earl Hyman, Salem Ludwig, Austin Pendleton and Anne Jackson.

 

For his work as a playwright, John was recently commissioned to write the book/script to the musical "THE COTTON CLUB" set to openb in 2012. Has received several grants and awards from The Ford Foundation. His playwriting work includes VEGAS, his (co-written) first play, which was presented and read at the Lambs Theatre, read at Steppenwolf in Chicago, and recently read at the Dramatists Guild in NYC; the long running comedy hit, HOW I KILLED MY ROOMMATE…And Got Away With It, which ran for 2 years in New York City. JANE HO, which was originally read at The Dramatists Guild in NYC and made it's NYC Premiere on Theatre Row to outstanding and was recently accepted into the Actors Studio’s PD Unit under the direction of Cosmin Chaviu and read on Broadway this past April featuring actors trained in John’s advanced acting workshop; BEYOND THE PALISADES, which was work-shopped staring Emmy Award Winning Actress Jen Jiles. Other works in progress include THINGS I TELL MY PILLOW (Presently being cast for a Dramatists Guild reading on Broadway in June. Forthcoming plays include: DOWNTOWN WHORE, SO YOU WANNA BE IN PICTURES, WHEN I WAS BLACK, LOVE IS A VERB, and THE DRAMATIST.

He has amassed almost 300 professional acting credits in theatre, TV and film. He is best known as the lovable DOLAN for 6 years in the the long running show in New York, LINE. Some notable Off and Off Off Broadway credits include: Jacob Marley in Sandra Nordgren's critically acclaimed adaptation of Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol; Quasimodo in The Hunch Back of Notre Dame (Tour); John Merrick in The Elephant Man; Norman Bulansky in The Boys Next Door; Molina in Kiss of the Spiderwoman; Joey Delaney in Man Enough; Bickham in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie; Felix Turner in The Normal Heart; Torch in Beirut; Clark Davis in Short Eyes; Willis in Split Second, Teddy in Cuba and His Teddy Bear. John can also be seen in an upcoming film playing a young Peter Gotti. John has extensive television credits and can be seen in everything from Law and Order (including SVU and CI), CSI: NY, The Sopranos, and OZ.

He is the founder and Artistic Director of Cutting Edge Theater. He is a member of The Actors Studio PD Unit in NYC. A resident playwright/member of The Hudson Exploited Theater Co. Inc.; he is a member of the Dramatists Guild in NYC and Chicago; he is also a member of The Actors Studio Playwright Process Unit and was voted one of New York’s finest new playwrights.
